12/18 Dirt Dog Run @ 8:30AM

Sunday morning at 8:30 the Dirt Dog Trail Runners will be running our annual Ornament Run around the Lafayette Reservoir from Kat's office in Lafayette.  The run and post-run event will proceed rain or shine.  Alex will be at the start to get everyone going.

Here are the details provided by Kat:

Meet:  971 Dewing Ave., Lafayette
Time: 8:30 am

Bring:  Your holiday spirit, an ornament for the tree, and maybe something to share.

Details:  I will open up the office beforehand to drop off any treats, and /or just to use the bathrooms.  Stick around after the run for treats, hot cocoa, spiced apple cider and good cheer.  I will also have ornaments that you can write on to put on the tree if you don't have one, and bells for everyone to wear.  The run will be mostly pavement, but around the reservoir there is a dirt path next to paved path if you choose. The run is 5.25 miles if you do the whole thing.  It can be shortened.  Up to the dam face and back is only 3 miles.

There will be no Dirt Dog run Christmas weekend and New Year's weekend.  The next run, trail conditions permitting, will be 1/8/17.

Driving Directions:  From the 680/24 interchange take 24 towards Oakland.  Exit at the Central Lafayette Exit and bear right at the end of the ramp.  Continue your right turn and go under the freeway.  Turn right on Mt. Diablo Blvd.  Look for Dewing Ave on your left.  Park on the street.

12/11 Dirt Dog Run Cancelled

Wednesday's and Thursday's rain have made our local trails muddy and slippery.  With more rain forecast for the remainder of the week we have cancelled our planned run.  Hopefully, you will be able to join the ornament run around Lafayette Reservoir run being planned by Kat on the 18th.  It will be a rain or shine run with a party afterwards.

12/4 Dirt Dog Run @ 8:30AM

Sunday morning at 8:30 the Dirt Dog Trail Runners will be running a 6 mile loop course from Castle Rock Park in Walnut Creek.  There will be two shorter options.  Alex will be out early marking the course and Greg will be at the start to greet and sweep.
Alex describes the course as follows:
I ran a perfect six mile course (it will seem like more) today starting at Castle Rock Park in Walnut Creek
There is a big climb at the start, and total elevation is around 1500 feet.
The trails were all runnable and there are two options to make it shorter. I will mark both of those,  but only with one arrow and an "s" for short at the top of the trails (Fairy Lantern and Buckeye Ravine). Both these trails will take you to the Stage Road trail where I will place arrows again for the way back to the parking lot.

Driving Directions:
Exit I-680 at Ygnacio road in Walnut Creek and drive east.
After about three miles turn right on Walnut AVENUE (not Walnut Blvd)
After about two miles enter the roundabout and go right on Castle Rock Road.
Follow Castle Rock Road till the end past the horse stables, and park on the left.
