8:30 am, Wednesday Jan 1st 2014
Celebrate the New Year's with a run in the hills!  Very scenic and fairly flat!  6-mile and longer options.   Easy jogging pace, plus a few stops to take in the views!
Meet on Crockett Blvd at the Crockett Regional Park Staging area.  To get there from Martinez take CA-4 W, take Exit 5 (Cummings Skyway), turn right and go 2 miles.  Turn right at Crockett Blvd and go down the hill about 1.2 miles to entrance and parking area on left.  We'll start running by 8:35 am.  (Note, some others will be parking on Cummings Skyway and will join the run group around 9 am, but this area has limited parking).
Please come with water (and phone/GPS if available).  Route will be easy to follow via maps (we'll hand out copies), and/or pre-marked arrows on trail

1222 Dirt Dog Run @ 8:30AM

2.  Greetings

Sunday morning at 8:30 the Dirt Dog Trail Runners will be running a 5 mile loop course in the Lime Ridge Open Space between Walnut Creek and Concord from the Monticeto trailhead.  The Trailhead is at the intersection of Ygnacio Valley Road and Monticeto.  Bill will be out early marking the course and Doug will be at the start to greet and sweep.

There will be no run the following weekend in acknowledgement of the holiday week.

Driving Directions:  From the 680/24 interchange take Ygnacio Valley Road towards Concord.  After you crest the ridge look for Monticeto on your right.  Turn right on Montceto and make an immediate right into the parking lot.  The parking lot is fairly small so you may need to park on the street.

We look forward to your joining our run.

Moonlight run Monday Dec.16 6:30PM

> Hello Dirt Dog Runners and Joggers,
> We are skipping our Sunday morning run this week, but instead are going out for a moonlight run on Monday Night, December 16th on Shell Ridge in Walnut Creek
> It will be a full moon and there is no rain in the forecast. However, if you can't see the moon on Monday night, due to could cover, the run will be cancelled, since we rely on the light of the moon to see the trail.
> Most of you are familiar with the trail which will be an out and back, so there will be no trail markings that night.
> I (and I believe Doug as well) will be at the start to meet and greet everyone.
> Happy trails,
> Doug and Alex
> Directions to the start:
> from the 24/680 interchange head north on 680
> Exit on Ygnacio Valley ave.
> At the bottom of the ramp go right onto Ygnacio Valley
> Turn right on Homestead (after you've gone under the Iron Horse Bike trail overpass).
> Turn left on Marshall Drive and follow that all the way to the end at the school.

12/8 Dirt Dog Run @ 8:30AM Is On

2.  Greetings

We will be running in the morning.  Here is Ginny's report.

Doug, the back side is still a little too muddy. I was on a chunk of the trails and there are spots that are doable but I had clumps of mud on most of them.
Soooo, how about plan B. Runners can still meet at whitecliff, in case some do not get your message. I am thinking you will not have too many anyway. I will mark arrows taking them down the asphalt path to the Rocksprings gate. They will go in there and left on the Briones-Mt. diablo trail towards indian valley school. I did that trail this morning and it was good. Dries out much faster. Then up the paved service road to the water tower and over Shell ridge, back down ginder gap. This is a short run maybe 3.5 miles or so, maybe a little more. BUT they can go twice for a 6 mile run. The trails are good and I did it this morning.  I am walking that way again tomorrow aft and can erase any arrows  you miss or don't want to.
Soooo unless I hear from you otherwise, I will mark that route.

12/8 Dirt Dog Run @ 8:30AM

2.  Greetings

Sunday morning at 8:30 the Dirt Dog Trail Runners will be running a 6 mile loop course on Shell Ridge in Walnut Creek starting from the end of Whitecliff Way in Walnut Creek.  Ginny will be out early marking the course and Doug will be at the start to greet and sweep.  Plan on getting to the start a bit early so you start ahead of the sweeper.

The weather forecast is calling for rain Friday night into Saturday morning.  Ginny will be out Saturday afternoon checking trail conditions to make sure they are not too slippery and muddy.  We will be sending out a go/no go announcement Saturday evening.  Check your E-mail or our web page,, before you leave home for the Sunday morning run to make sure it hasn't been cancelled.

Driving Directions:  From the 680/24 interchange take 680 South towards Danville.  Exit at the South Main Street exit and continue South on South Main Street.  Turn left on Rudgear Road.  (Those going North on 680 can exit directly onto Rudgear Road, turn right at the bottom of the ramp.)  Go East on Rudgear Road for about 1.3 miles.  Turn left on Whitecliff Way.  Park at the end of Whitecliff Way where the run will start.

We look forward to your joining our run.
